Once the domain of up and coming bands,
the South by Southwest Music Festival is becoming a place where semi-established
bands also play to get exposure in a more
crowded, more conservative music industry.
And then of course, there will always be
the bands we have never heard of, some
of which will break out in 2009.
SXSW has the luxury of not only being
one of the first festival/conference deals
of the year but also one of the biggest.
This is the gathering that shapes the
rest of the year... check out anyone who
will be somebody in 2009 at SXSW. It's
a week of shows, discussion panels, schmoozing,
new bands, schmoozing, drunkeness while
trying to schmooze, etc.
There is a simultaneous SXSW Film Festival
that coincides with the music festival.
It's no Sundance yet, but it is an interesting
indie venue, with over 170 films.
There is also an interactive component
to cover the Web.
The SXSW Music Festival has not yet announced its 2009 lineup.
