Anti- Records has signed global afro beatists Antibalas to release their new album, Security. Antibalas has pushed beyond their sound on the new album to create a new Antibalas sound that is built on their old one. They worked with John McEntire (Tortoise, Stereolab) to create Security, due out in March of 2007.
Citing influences like Fela Kuti and Africa 70, Antibalas brings a heady mix of afrobeat tribalism to a global and worldly mix of jazz, horns, latin, funk and more. Their name means "bulletproof" in Spanish, thy're from New York, and they do Afrobeat. If that's not globalsim in the international age, I don't know what is.
