LCD Soundsystem Announce European Tour Dates and iTunes-only Thing
By: Spacelab Research Staff
LCD Soundsystem have begun to work its way back into the collective unconscious. Following quickly on the heels of the announcement of the release of 45:33, an iTunes-only release of music made for running, there's also news of European tour dates. 45:33 is one continuous song, 45 minutes and 33 seconds long.
“There are 45 minutes and 33 seconds of body music. The idea, to make a long piece of music built around an arc designed for running, appealed to me because it was so anathematic to what you're typically asked to do as an artist; make easily digestable lumps of music for albums, or the radio, or whatever. I'd been thinking of the records I love in which people made one "song" that took up the entire LP, and realizing that releasing something like this would be a virtual impossibility for me, I became excited when the Nike+ project came along.”
“Sometimes the best way to keep running is to find the parts of the run that are actually rests – that while you’re still running, you’re viewing some of the run as soothing and recuperative, rather than constantly feeling like you’re running for your life.”
But there's more. This all works nicely and smoothly into a full studio LCD Soundsystem album that will be released in March of 2007. Details are very secret... I think the final mix might be hiding in Area 51 or Los Alamos right now.
